Many talented individuals develop into tomorrow's entertainers in the Stringer Fine Arts Center, but few students realize just what talents the instructors possess.

While a music instructor in the Hutchinson Community College, Sam, in his spare time, enjoyed working as a professional clown.

Seymore got his start in the clowning business four years ago during his free time in the summer. He annually attends a clown camp at the University of Wisconsin to polish his skills. The four-week long camp improves the skills of clowns from all over the world. Nationally famous clowns teach courses including balloon sculpture, character development, etc.

Seymore's clown character is named "Pippin." He describes himself as "a clean American hobo from the Depression, dressed in a tuxedo with tails, a striped shirt and socks, a derby hat, and a red bow tie and suspenders."

"Pippin" is a member of the World Clown Association and the Clown Hall of Fame. He even has his own Clown I.D. card complete with a photograph. In his comic routines he doesn't just stand in front of his audience to entertain them, he interacts with them and tries to do the unexpected. Seymore uses little pigs as an example to demonstrate a point about attitude. "If we build character in our life, then the things of the world don't destroy us," he said.

He enjoys making people laugh. "It's gratifying to walk into a room full of people and lift their spirits," he said.We hope his association with our Wizards will benefit him in some small manner and we wish him the best.
