If Rick's interest in magic started when he was an early teenager I am not aware of it as he was past that stage when I first met him. Serious about magic whether it be close-up, club, or stage, it didn't matter as he absorbed all information and ideas offered.

I was fortunate in making several trips with this open-minded and congenial individual and found him interesting and knowledgeable in the arts other than magic. He studied at night subjects that, however unrelated to magic, he was able to combine them with magic in some unusual manner that was either entertaining or educational. And because of his background, education, personality, and attitude he was well suited for official club duties that were to come.

Within a year of his joining the Ring he volunteered for the position of Ring Reporter, one of the most demanding positions that many shun. Two years ago he was elected Secretary and handles both positions well. Beginning next year, however, a new Reporter will relieve him of that responsibility.

During the past several years, due to a resignation of our TVP, we were unable to elect by petition or `write-in' vote a new Territorial Vice President. As time passed with each new administration, we were unable to get the attention of upper echelon or committee chairmen until the past year. Only by a writing campaign to other notable members were we able to force action from the International President to make an appointment he could have made earlier on his own. Rick was the appointee and with his leadership our Ring has continued to be active to the point of winning the first award in a program sponsored by the International.

Rick also belongs to the SAM, International Magicians Society, Texas Association of Magicians, and Arturo Assembly 201 in Topeka. He is the system operator and takes care of the Greater Magic Network (GeMiNi) Bulletin Board System. This allows him to stay current and up to date in all subjects on magic with magicians around the world.
