Deana's first encounter with magic was when she wandered into a magic
shop to find Mort Saul demonstrating "amazing illusions and gimmicks." 10 years
later she wandered into another shop in Wichita, The Emporium. (Seems she does a lot of
wandering.) Joe rekindled her magic spirit, demonstrated a few items and provided her with
much information that otherwise would take months or years to learn. He then sponsored her
into the IBM and Wizards of Wichita.
With a dozen or two magicians around to assist Deana, she was soon doing
card tricks, silks and other gadgets. Men in the club, tired of male secretaries, elected
her to the position of club Secretary. A year later she was elected President and the
following year Treasurer.
A situation in New Mexico affected the Murray's attendance to the club.
The East Moreno Ranch at Eagle Nest, NM was placed in their hands to manage. So much of
their time is spent there that we seldom see them but it's something that has to be done.
It's a dude ranch operation where folks that have a hankerin' to ridin' and ropin' and
drinkin' from a tin cup make reservations by the week and Deana, in her jeans, chaps, and
spurs leads the posse on a chase through the gulch across that good rich bottom land or
whatever they have down there on this ranch, and they pay for it! Then, while they're
sittin' around the bonfire before they turn in, Deana entertains them with
sleight-of-hand. (Just kidding Deana.) Actually she does entertain the guests at the main
clubhouse at the ranch.
Before leaving Wichita Deana joined Sheri Dawn Rosile in a combined act,
but it was cut short when Deana absorbed the New Mexico enterprise. Another talent
revealed to this writer recently was the musical background Deana possesses. She writes
music and lyrics and did so for the "Ring Around the Moon," a romantic musical
comedy that starred the Kansas born Metropolitan Opera star Karla Burns. Way to go Deana!
